Rituparna Sengupta steps into Suchitra Sen's shoes, to play Bijoya in Datta based on Sarat Chandra's Novel

Bengali movie icon Rituparna Sengupta is all set to star in a film based Sarat Chandra Chattopadhaya's novel Datta.While doing so she will be following the footsteps of late legend Suchitra Sen. Suchitra Sen had played the same role of Bijoya, i.e. the lead character of the novel in Ajoy Kar directed Datta (1976).

The recreation of Datta is being helmed by Nirmal Chakrabarty who be debuting as director. Nirmal Chakrabarty is no new to the film industry. He had been working as freelance film journalist. Moreover he had been managing Rituparna Sengupta's public relation affairs for over a decade.
The director has expressed his love for Bengali Literature and wants to give the present genertion a taste of the rich literature Bengali language possess.
Datta is a love story set in the pre-colonial Bengal where a young woman has been engaged to the son of his father's friend Naren. But Bijoya gets attracted to Bilass, son of another friend of his father. She had heard a lot of rumours about Naren which made her see Naren with disgust and suspicion. But scenario changes when Bijoya starts meeting Naren.
Apart from Rituparna Sengupta , the film will see actors like Joy Sengupta, Ferodous Ahmed and Biswajit Chakrabarty in pivotal roles. The movie goes to the floors this week. Shooting will be done in and around Shantiniketan.
